VJBL Committee of Management



Niall Quinn - Chairperson (2006 - present)

Niall Quinn has been involved with Junior Basketball for the past 20 years. A life member of Knox Basketball Association, Niall began playing basketball at a young age before beginning a long career as a referee in 1980. 

In 1990, Niall became involved in coaching, and by 1999 was the assistant Coach of the Knox VBL side which culminated in a premiership in 2000. 

Niall stepped back from the Knox senior program 2005, but continues to coach at a junior representative level. 

In 2007 Niall was awarded with a Basketball Victoria Service Award after in excess of 15 years service to the sport.

Niall's family are also involved in the "behind the scenes" with family members being involved with both scorebench, stats and competition administration.

Niall’s background is in Retail Management, owning his own butcher store for 18 years before taking his current role as Meat Manager at Maxi Foods, a position he has held for 14 years.

Michael Barrow (2007 - Present)

Michael Barrow initially became involved in the VJBL in 2000 as a parent and then an administrator where he has filled roles such as Team Manager, Association Secretary,  Assistant Treasurer and VJBL Delegate for his home association of Western Port. 

Michael brings to this Committee an extensive background in IT and Telecommunications having worked in the industry for the past 14 years. Michael is currently a Project Manager with a Telecommunications Company.

Michael has two daughters who are currently playing in the VJBL.

Mike Collins (2007 - Present)

Mike Collins was elected onto the Committee of Management in 2007 following many years as a Committee Member on the North West Conference Committee.

Mike has been involved in a volunteer capacity with basketball for the past 35 years where he has fulfilled a variety of roles such as Coach, Delegate, Auditor and Treasurer.

Mike is currently the Treasurer for the Broadmeadows Basketball Association and is the Secretary of the Accounts in Education CPA Discussion Group.

Mike is a Fellow of the Australia Society of CPA's and is employed by the Department of Education Victoria where he is a Tax Compliance Manager.

David Hickman (1973 - Present)

David Hickman is a long serving volunteer to junior basketball. He initially became involved in 1965 as a coach, organizer at club level & then from 1969 committee member & involvement in fixtures.

David's professional background is primarily in education. He holds a PHD in Sociology and was a Professor at Latrobe University for many years before taking on the role of Venues Coordinator at Eltham. David retired from this role in 2000 but continues to fulfil many volunteer roles within the sport.

David's continued service to the sport has seen him receive many accolades, he is a Life Member of Basketball Victoria BV, he has received   Administrator of Year awards from both Basketball Australia and Basketball Victoria, he has also been awarded an OAM for service to sport.

Away from his role with the VJBL, David is the Vice President of the EDJBA, EWBC Executive, Chairperson EBC Co-op, Saturday Boys’ Selection Adviser.

Ed Holman - North West Conference Chairperson

Ed was elected Chairman of the North West Conference in 2007.

Ed's first involvement in the League was through the domestic program at the Sunshine Basketball Association. He recognised that the local community and children would benefit from participating in the elite sporting program that the league provides.

Away from the court, Ed a Life Member and past Treasurer of the RMIT Underwater Club and is a Quality, Safety and Environmental Manufacturing Manager, an industry he has worked in for the past 29 years.

Ed has been the Representative delegate for the Sunshine Basketball Association since 2000.

Rebekah Lacy - VJBL Competition Manager

Rebekah has been involved in the sport of basketball for a number years as a player and now an administrator. 

Away from the court her background in Sports Management involves previous roles within the disability sport sector as well as teaching. Rebekah holds a Masters Degree in Sports Management.
